Secondary English Language Arts 7th - 12th Grade
GPS English Language Arts classes are more than just reading and writing; they teach students a mix of reading and writing skills from the Arizona ELA Standards that will give them a solid foundation once they graduate from GPS to pursue their future. Students will read and judge different types of texts, including novels, essays, and non-fiction. They will learn to write for different reasons, and how to include the ideas they read about in their writing. They will also learn to find, share, and understand information for different purposes.
Our junior high and high schools also offer the option of taking Honors English Language Arts Courses in grades 7, 8, 9, and 10. Honors Classes focus on going deeper into the skills in the ELA standards and will encourage students to expand their thinking, reading, and writing.
GPS also offers Advanced Placement English classes at all our high schools for grades 11 and 12. Those classes include AP Seminar, AP Language and Composition, and AP Literature. Please see the Advanced Placement page for more information.
International Baccalaureate (IB) is offered at Gilbert High School. Please see the GPS IB page for more information.
